My friend Zaldy is habitually tardy at work. He never seems to run out of excuses for his lack of punctuality. Even us, his friends, feel irritated whenever he explains how his office attire got burned by the flat iron or how he had a flat tire while on his way to our office. At one time, he even had to say that his mother got sick, only to find out that his mother came to the office earlier to go looking for him. His alibis range from personal problems to technological ones. The last time I remembered was that he had a problem with his security suite so he had to reset Zonealarm before he could proceed to work. Another was that he had to call his uncle abroad. Unfortunately, according to him, Skype malfunctioned and so, he had to call the Skype help hotline, and he wasn’t able to finish his report in time.
With all these silly reasons, you may wonder why he never got fired. This is simply because his family owns the company. Although his work is not of a critical nature as regards to time, his tardiness is causing some serious humiliation to the management who cannot even sanction him because of his kinship. Well, it seems that his father is continuing to tolerate his shortcomings for now. After all, he is the only son and his father seems to have raised a spoiled child. However, insider sources told me that his father is starting to consider his demotion. This is just but proper lest his father seriously runs the risk of destroying the morale of most employees in the company. Ultimately, it will surely reflect negatively for the company itself, if this goes on and on indefinitely.
